A fluent English, Portuguese and Spanish speaker, João is a Portuguese-British mediatrepreneur and award-winning technology and business journalist. Winner of an IM100 Digital Infrastructure Award and a Professional Publishers Association (PPA) 30 Under 30 media award, he owns a real passion for the media and has experience across online, print, broadcast and events.

He is the founder of Mondego Media Group (MMG), where he launched and edits The Tech Capital, a digital media, intelligence and events platform providing valuable content and data covering investment and players in the global digital infrastructure sector. João is also the founder and host of the Great Business Minds Podcast, the definitive show for the business of digital infrastructure.

Prior to launching The Tech Capital and the GBM podcast, João founded and served as editor-in-chief at Data Economy and the Finvest Summit, part of Broadmedia, an Euromoney Institutional Investor PLC company. His media work takes him around the world having reported from over 35 countries including the US, Japan, China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Vietnam, Morocco and across Europe.

With a deep interest in news, current affairs and history, prior to founding Data Economy, João experienced the reporting industry at Computer Business Review, the Daily Mail – where he delved into the investigation of five London-based Portuguese ISIS jihadists-, Channel 4 News, Channel 4, The Guardian, Antena Lusa, Future Behind and the Holloway Express.

Specialised in the fields of IT infrastructure, data centres, IoT, AI, cloud and data, he has interviewed some of the world’s technology leaders and has delivered on several exclusives.

He has ranked 28 in the ‘Top 100 IoT Influencers of 2016’, ranked 28 in the ‘Top 100 M2M Influencers of 2016’, ranked 11 in the ‘Top Connected Car Influencers’, and features in the list of ‘IoT thought leaders to watch in the next four years [2016 onwards]’.

Founding new news titles is a challenge João enjoys. At the age of just 12, he also founded his school’s newspaper and in 2012 he founded his own platform Corporation News Times International (CNT International), with an edition in English – CNTimes – and one in Portuguese – CNT Diário-, which soon attracted a vast readership worldwide.

Between 2014 and 2015, João was the Head of Social Media for a UK parliamentary candidate of the general election’s winning party.

João graduated from London Metropolitan University in 2014 with a BA in Journalism. In addition to his passion for journalism, João also enjoys travelling, urban planning and has a deep interest for all things fitness, especially bodybuilding and aesthetics.
